In the daily struggles that churches and believers have regarding evangelisation and Bible engagement, we have found that in Albania a great way of getting people’s attention toward the Holy Scriptures and building good relationships between non Christians and the Churches is through sports. Sharing this idea also with some church leaders, we saw that this was not just an impression but a strong fact also in their ministries at their churches. This is why we were thrilled to think of a way how to use this great opportunity to help harvesters and youth leaders to evangelize and help young believers engage more with the Bible.

At the end we decided to organize a sport event called “The living Word“. It is a football tournament between different churches from different denominations (Protestant, Orthodox and Catholic) and from different towns of Albania and with a big participation and practical help from IFES. There are 16 teams registered and each team is devoted to read together a Bible passage each time before they play a game in the tournament. Each week there is a new Bible passage to read and to meditate on.

The tournament has started on 15 April go on until the 31th of May. We are very impressed by the big number of participation (160 players registered, aged between 16-40) and also from the seriousness of the teams to read the Bible passage and to be committed to the deadlines and other organizational matters. We have also distributed to each player the Gospel of John and we are very encouraged to see that there are groups that has started a Bible study starting from the Gospel of John. To facilitate the communication we have created also a Facebook group called – Turneu “FJALA E GJALLË”. You can find this group here.

Please pray for this activity that God would work through us to promote the Bible and help the team leaders to start Bible study groups with their teammates.
